Lilly Pilly Resilience is a great general-purpose hedging plant where there is more room for the hedge to develop. If you have a narrow driveway garden bed or a tight boundary strip, Straight & Narrow will often be the better choice. If you have a wider garden bed and want a fuller traditional hedge, Resilience may be more suitable.
How quickly does it grow? Growth rate will depend heavily on soil, water, sunlight and plant size at installation. Once established, Straight & Narrow Lilly Pilly can produce strong growth through the warmer months. The fastest establishment usually comes from deep watering, good soil preparation, mulching, regular fertilising, avoiding waterlogged soil and light formative pruning. A hedge planted correctly and looked after from the beginning will almost always outperform one that is simply planted and left alone.
Does it need pruning? Yes, but generally less width control is needed than with broader Lilly Pilly varieties.
