Lilly Pilly Baby Lilly

Acmena smithii 'Baby Lilly'

Baby Lilly Pilly is a compact, dense-growing lilly pilly, botanically Syzygium smithii ‘Baby Lilly’—also sold under the name High ’n’ Mighty™. It suits hedges, screening and topiary, and is known for low susceptibility to psyllids and myrtle rust. It can grow roughly 1.5–4 metres or taller if left unpruned, so “Baby” doesn’t mean it stays tiny. You can clip it to a neat hedge around 1.8 metres high. For Sydney, plant it in sun or part shade in soil that drains well. Water regularly while it establishes, mulch around the roots, and lightly trim new growth to encourage a thick hedge. Available in 300mm, 400mm and 500mm / 75 litre pots — contact us for current pricing and availability.

Worth knowing

A larger pot gives you a more established starting plant — not an instant hedge. Final density depends on spacing, the nursery batch and care in the first season.

How to look after it

  1. 01Water deeply two to three times a week while establishing, then during dry spells.
  2. 02Trim lightly two or three times a year (spring to autumn) to keep a dense hedge.
  3. 03Feed with a native-friendly slow-release fertiliser in spring.
  4. 04Watch new growth for psyllid (pimple) damage and treat early.
